June is Men’s Health Month!
Men’s Health Month aims to heighten awareness of preventable health problems and encourage early detection and treatment of disease among men and boys. Seeking regular medical advice and early treatment for disease and injury can make all the difference as you age.
One positive thing we can all do for our health is to keep up with health screenings that catch disease before we even know we have it, giving us a much better chance at a healthier future.
ARA offers several screenings:
- CT calcium scoring to check to see if you have coronary artery disease (CAD), a silent condition that can cause a heart attack.
- CT lung screening can be very important for those who are or have been heavy smokers, to catch lung cancer early.
- Bone densitometry can tell you if you have osteoporosis or osteopenia so you can take measures to strengthen your bones.
- Abdominal aortic aneurysm screening can catch deterioration of the abdominal aorta, which can potentially cause deadly internal bleeding.
Prostate health can be a big issue for men 50 and older. The prostate keeps growing throughout life, and as it gets larger, it can sometimes put pressure on the bladder and block the flow of urine, causing a weak stream, urgency, and frequency, and many trips to the bathroom. Prostate artery embolization at ARA is a nonsurgical, leading-edge procedure that relieves symptoms and preserves much of the prostate.
Prostate cancer also affects many men, and ARA has just started offering an innovative new treatment using a targeted radiopharmaceutical that finds and destroys prostate cancer cells in people with advanced metastatic disease. Find out more about PSMA here.
