Interventional Radiology

Interventional radiologists are board-certified physicians who specialize in non-surgical, targeted treatments performed using imaging for guidance. These procedures have less risk, less pain and less recovery time compared to open surgery. Interventional radiology is a rapidly growing area of medicine.

It was interventional radiologists who first used special balloons to open up narrowed arteries and veins, called angioplasty, and who first stented open blocked arteries. Dr. Robert Min, who is an interventional radiologist at Cornell Medical Center, invented and developed the technique of endovenous laser. Skilled at catheter manipulation into veins, ARA’s interventional radiologists are experts at imaging and treating venous disease.

The interventional radiologists at ARA are all licensed medical doctors with board certification in diagnostic radiology. The American Board of Medical Specialties recognizes diagnostic radiology as a medical specialty, and gives certification to radiologists who meet its stringent requirements. Some of our physicians have been instructors to other physicians on the newest advances in non-surgical treatments for venous disease in the legs.
